“Elegant music ... Wonderfully immersive.” - Record Collector Magazine

Heaven’s Lathe is thrilled to be releasing these recently unearthed vintage soundtrack recordings composed by the legendary Reg Omeroyd and performed by The Lounge Bar Orchestra.

The BBC1 spy thriller ‘E.N.D.A.N.G.E.R.M.E.N.T.’ (1971-72) ran for two series. Starring Anneke Wills and Maurice Colbourne (as Agents 9 and K), it concerned an MI5 department tasked with rescuing agents operating in deep cover. Sadly, all the episodes have since been wiped. All that survive are the recordings of Omeroyd’s theme tune and various incidental cues. Now, for the first time in 50 years, this wonderful music can be heard again.

The A-side features the Lounge Bar Orchestra’s recording of the haunting theme from ‘E.N.D.A.N.G.E.R.M.E.N.T.’. Beginning with a plaintive piano line, it opens out into a flawless arrangement where suspenseful strings hover above a strident brass section, whilst the central keyboard motif moves with a mysterious grace. The addition of flute and a gong can only add to this theme tune’s allure.

The B-side is ‘The Girl With The Golden Hips’ - an incidental cue from Episode 4, wherein Agents 9 and K go to the aid of a female operative in deep cover at a Soho strip club. Here the Lounge Bar Orchestra, deploy a cool and chic 70s organ groove and shimmering strings on a piece which climaxes with a mysterious Ligeti-like drone. If any one track can be said to showcase Omeroyd’s compositional range, it’s this one.
