Philip Graham Even though I don’t own a turntable, I love this band so much I finally bought this vinyl single, thinking, “Well, at least I can look at the record and imagine the music.” But it turns out the purchase includes a digital download! So, silly me. And now I’m a happy camper.
Which of these two is my favorite track? Really, it’s a tied score.
Magical music. I can’t wait for more releases.

Under the name Annabel (lee), Sheila B. Ellis and Richard E, create music of a strange spectral beauty. Their award winning debut album ‘By The Sea... And Other Solitary Places’ was released by Ninja Tune. It minted a sound that invokes the haunting classicism of Claude Debussy and Erik Satie, intermingled with the quiet folklore of Nick Drake, tipped with the jazz stylings of Antonio Carlos Jobim. Whilst their follow up album ‘The Cleansing’ was even better.

“Ellis’s emotive voice recalls the bruised grace of a young Billie Holliday. Meanwhile, Richard E’s production conjures up a grainy, isolated world of lush strings and acoustic instrumentation... you’ll find yourself surrendering to these opiated torch songs and abstracted downtempo tunes.” - Dangerous Minds

Heaven’s Lathe is honoured to be releasing two new compositions by this very special duo. ‘The Skin She’s In (Leucosia)’ sees Sheila's delicate vocal floating over a forlorn cello and gently ascending piano line. The effect is like drifting out to sea under a starlit sky.

‘Hold My Breath’ is a more abstracted and expansive work: Richard E creates a bed of constantly uncoiling guitar strings, bejewelled with bright keyboard tones, whilst Sheila delivers one of her most tender lyrics: ‘I can only hold my breath so long, help me carry on’...
